Because you’re here, I know that you’re excited about starting your new little family, and that you can’t wait to be cuddling you’re squishy little baby. You’re looking at all the gorgeous families in the photos but you kinda can’t handle the thought of having your own photograph taken.
“But Leanda” I hear you say, “I’m 30+ weeks pregnant, I feel as big as a barn door, and I’m still working full-time. And even if I could reach over this big belly to my legs, we’re in the middle of renovating so I have no bathroom to shave them in. The last thing on my mind at the moment is organising maternity or newborn photos. And besides, I hate having my photo taken.”
Its ok my lovely, I understand. Let me tell you right now, I’ve never, ever, had anyone say to me “Oh yay, I can’t wait to have my photograph taken. I love being photographed. Hurrah its photo time!” And that’s why I’ve worked so hard to make this easy for you.

So I met Chelsea and Matt a few years ago when they booked me for an extended family shoot. At the time we joked that, if they ever needed a newborn photographer, they should give me a call. Well… they gave me a call, and I couldn’t have been more excited for them!!! I can’t wait to meet their little bundle, I have a feeling its gonna be one cute baby!
A few months ago Rachael contacted me about the possibility of doing a maternity session. After a few emails back and forth we worked out a date when her hubby Jeremy would be home from work and we squeezed their session in just before their pre-natal class one Monday afternoon. She suggested a beautiful location where they’d had their Wedding photos taken 12 months ago.
We both arrived early, eager to get started. And as we wandered around following the light, we chit-chatted about this and that. Then along came a guy on a quad bike who asked us what we were doing. For those who know this area well, it will be pretty obvious where the photos were taken. But apparently, according to ‘quad bike guy’, we were on private property and he asked us(nicely) to leave.
Well, that was kinda awkward. But we all had a bit of a chuckle because we were already done and had some gorgeous photos to show for it! =D
**For the record(& before anyone gets their knickers in a knot)** No we didn’t climb any fences, open any gates, or pass the ‘no trespassing’ sign. We were just walking along the side of what we thought was a public road.
Leah’s sister arranged this Maternity Session for her all the way from Queensland, how nice is that? The weather was the perfect. Just the right mix of sunny but not too hot, and fresh but not too cold. We met out at Gostwyck just before sunset on a Friday evening and had a few laughs together. I love that these guys are waiting until their baby is born to find out what they are having. Boy or girl – what do you think?
Five years ago Maria went on an adventure. She travelled all the way to Australia from Spain and ended up in Murrurundi. She wondered who she would possibly meet in such a teeny tiny town.
She met Bryan. They fell in love and were married. Now, they’re on the cusp of a new adventure. Together.
“Is this your photo shoot or mummy’s Sybella?” asked Dan. “Umm. It’s mine.” said Sybella. Yep, it certainly was! She stole the show with her sweet smile and her chatter about the colourful feathers & the Autumn leaves we collected during the session. And we still managed to get some beautiful photos of Holli’s gorgeous bump too! Enjoy!
Saying It’s been a busy year is an understatement. It’s been a huge, enormous, gigantic, hectic year. I’ve met and photographed some amazing families over the last 12 months(some of them more than once). And I can’t wait to do it all again next year.
Are you expecting? Has it been a while since your last family photo? Have you booked your session? I’d love to meet you in 2014!
Here are some of my favourite shots from 2013. Enjoy!
